The meaning behind Kilowatt hour (KWh)

A kilowatt hour often abbreviated as KWh.  It’s a measure of power consumed.  For example, a 60 watt light bulb consumes 60watts of power in one hour.  For electric vehicles, a Chevy Volt has a 16KWh battery pack, or 16,000 watts of power held by the batteries in the car.  A Nissan Leaf has a 24KWh battery pack, or 24,000 watts of power held by the batteries in the car.  Their power isn’t consumed in one hour because the car drives at different speeds and therefore the batteries discharge at a different rate.  Think of your cellphone; depending on how [...]
